RATCLIFF served as executive architect for this $33 million project which involved four science departments: Biology, Physics, Computer Science and Geology. Four new buildings plus additions and alterations to several other structures were incorporated among existing science buildings to create an interdisciplinary teaching and research complex held together by a large central atrium and social stair.
This 350,000 s.f. project involved master planning, site studies, programming, and a design process which actively included faculty, students, administrators and community representatives. The program included teaching, office, laboratory, and support spaces for thirty-five departments. The new building development was integrated into the existing campus framework, creating a renewed “Science Walk” through the center of the complex and generating interactive exterior courtyards and quad spaces.
