Delivered as a design-build project the new six-story campus building at Berkeley City College was designed to foster connection, belonging, and student success. The all-electric, LEED Gold-certified building features collaborative learning environments, light-filled classrooms, student support and wellness spaces, faculty offices, as well as a spacious rooftop patio with spectacular views.
Responding thoughtfully to its urban context, the building promotes transparency and street-level activation while creating a network of interconnected social spaces that encourage interaction and community.
Its structural system, consisting of concrete shear walls and post-tensioned slabs, was selected for durability and efficiency, providing a shallow floor profile that maximized usable space while keeping the building below the high-rise threshold.
