Junipero Serra High School | Center for the Arts & Sciences

The second phase of a four-phase master plan created by Ratcliff, the Phase II project involves a new Center for the Arts and Sciences and an Aquatics Facility. Located in the heart of the campus, this phase replaces existing facilities and becomes a new focal point for the school where unique programs for art, music and sciences come together under one roof. The Paseo, the buildings new entry court, provides much needed multi-functional outdoor gathering space. On the ground floor, the music classroom is designed to enrich the music program by providing space that meets its various acoustical and spatial requirements. The 2D and 3D art classrooms, also on the ground floor, have large sliding doors that open up onto the Fine Arts Courtyard. Five science classrooms are situated on the upper floor and incorporate new technology and a layout that supports the expanded science curriculum required for graduation and continuation on to college. A 25yd x 38m pool for competitive swimming and water polo incorporates a shallower zone for summer youth programs and is located adjacent to the building. New locker facilities and areas for pool equipment and storage are also part of this phase. Future phases of the master plan include a classroom wing renovation, cafeteria replacement, and upgrades to the existing gym and chapel.
