Ratcliff partnered with the School from concept design through construction administration for the Athletic Complex located in Walnut Creek about one mile from the main campus. Given the limited space on the main campus, the school leadership searched for alternate site facilities that would support the athletics programs and acquired the site, modifying it to fit their needs. Modifications included removing sixteen of twenty-two tennis courts to make way for a new lacrosse and softball field. Project scope also included renovation of an existing recreational pool into a competitive 10-lane swimming and diving pool suitable for water polo, and renovation of existing club house with a training room, athletic performance center, student lounge, offices and new pool equipment building.
For the athletics fields, careful attention was given to the preferred orientation and sun angles. Given the expanded nature and change to this facility, Ratcliff worked closely with the City of Walnut Creek and the neighborhood to address their concerns regarding lighting, increased traffic and noise.
In addition to site and building upgrades, particular attention was paid to honoring family gifts making the project possible, and alumna success including swimmer Natalie Coughlin, twelve-time Olympic medalist.
